This time I win an Award

Josh nominated me for the Joan Orr Military Spouse award and I was 2017’s Med Group winner of the award.  Because of this, I was invited to the annual Award’s Banquet for Misawa.  Two other women and I from the base were in contention for the 35th Wing Spouse award.  We had to get all dressed up like going to a ball, Josh in his mess, me in a formal.  We arrived early along with the other award winners to receive a medal and a hand shake from Col. Job, the wing commander.  I got to walk through a saber line with Josh and I felt so official and bit embarrassed at all the attention.

Col. Jobe shakes my hand and gives me the medal.

I love the ceremony of the military
We then attended the banquet with the general population.  Anyone can attend this Award Ceremony if you are willing to pay for a seat.  We had the privilege of paying for the dinner as I was a nominee.  There were five of us nominees from MDOS, Josh’s squadron, so we were all pulling for each other.  Unfortunately, I did not win in my category so I will not be going forward.  That is ok though.  I really feel that what I do is not that significant or any more than other women around base that I know.  Josh was just kind enough to write up a package for me and we have a commander, Lt. Col. Hendrickson, who is interested in this type of recognition for those he works with.  Josh and I walked away from the night with a medal, two new challenge coins, and memories of a fun night all dressed up together.

My official military picture for the event.  I should have dressed to match the flag.

So far, 2018 in the military has been pretty good to us.  We definitely feel blessed by Josh's promotion and the opportunities that we enjoy here in Misawa.  After much talk about our future, we decided that we are not done with this crazy adventure in the Air Force, so Josh signed on for another four years. We feel like it was a momentous decision when put in the perspective that Bear will be 16, Bub will be 13, and Pants will be 11 at the end of that time.  It will give us one more assignment, one more adventure to discover.
